Dee Mitchell established Checks & Balances Business Service in 2008. 

 Dee recognized the need in the small business community for professional bookkeeping services at affordable rates. 

Checks & Balances Business Service has been helping small businesses succeed since 2008. In addition to bookkeeping and accounting services, we offer organizational and administrative consulting. We will work closely with your accountant and attorney to organize the financial aspects of your business.                   

With an extensive background in accounting, partnered with excellent client relation skills; Dee considers it an honor for the opportunity to work with each of her clients! As a fellow small business owner, we understand the inherent tension between building the business, servicing clients and keeping an eye on the bottom line.

Dee has a B.S. in Business Management/Accounting

             from Westbrook College (now University of New England), is a Quick books Pro Advisor and Notary Public for the State of Maine.

Dee lives in Windham with her Husband of 23 years, Jon and two "huge" but very lovable dogs; Lola, a French Mastiff

 and Otis, an American Bulldog.

Ellie Schulz joined Checks and Balances Business Services in 2010. 

Ellie has been in the bookkeeping and accounting field for over 20 years. Building upon their previous business relationship, Dee approached Ellie in the spring of 2010 with an offer to become a partner in the business she continues to develop.  In December of 2010 the transition was completed, allowing Ellie to pursue her path with Checks and Balances Business Services on a full time basis.

In addition to her bookkeeping skills, Ellie brings with her a passion for organization and detail, as well as focus and an enthusiasm to help small business owners achieve their goals.

Ellie has experience with a variety of accounting packages such as MCFMS, Peachtree and Quick Books.
