The Power of Point A to Point B – GPS your daily routine!

Ever have a day that you feel you are just “spinning your wheels?”

Mapping and flowcharts may not seem exciting, or even remotely interesting. However, a well-executed, but simple flowchart can improve your thought process and efficiency, no matter how large or small your tasks at hand or project to accomplish!

Procrastination… I do that?

Most of us have a daily to-do list on our desk. It includes phone calls to make, errands, administrative tasks, deadlines and work to be done for clients. It’s a pretty simple system. Do the task. Cross it off the list. However, I have a bad habit of not tackling a large project unless I have the time to focus on it until it’s completed. Not so good when I have a day on the road, client meetings, phone calls, and small jobs that need attention. I end up tackling the big stuff at 6:00 PM . . . Pulling out my hair and finish up around midnight or after. “Yawn”.

After making several attempts of changing schedules, making pockets of time that would quickly fill in with urgent tasks, I decided I had to find a way to be more organized in my approach and lose less hair in the process. It became crucial!

Organized Thinking = Organized Planning = Organized Project Management

For each large project or multi-phase task I have to complete, I create a simple flowchart that breaks it down into smaller tasks and steps. It makes the work manageable and allows me to complete the job one piece at a time in an organized manner.

Working with a chart allows me to make efficient use of my time. When I have 15 minutes between a phone call and a meeting, I can do one or two steps on the chart, check it off and know the next step to be tackled.

This is also helpful when applying a simple chart to your Business Plan. When I’m at Point A in my business, and I want to get to Point B, I create a chart of the steps that I need to take to get there. You can chart your course of action and see the progress and end result!
